First-year Sammi Pavlecic scored in the 21st minute, marking the first goal in regulation during The College of Wooster field hockey team's home North Coast Athletic Conference contests this season, and junior Erika Womack added an insurance goal in the 41st minute as the Fighting Scots topped visiting Earlham College 2-0 on Saturday morning at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (6-2, 3-1 NCAC), which won in overtime in its previous two NCAC home contests, gained some momentum in the 15th minute when a pair of shots sailed wide, and that helped open up the Scots' first scoring play a few minutes later. First-year Sydney Schuster dribbled into the middle of the circle off of a penalty corner, and fed the ball towards the left post, where Pavlecic finished the play for her co-team-leading fifth goal of the year.

Senior Lauren Abbott dished out the assist on Wooster's second goal of the game.

On the second goal, senior Lauren Abbott pushed the penalty corner try out to the top of the circle, where Womack thread the needle with a nice cross-field shot into the far corner of the cage.

Right after the second goal, Earlham (1-4, 1-3 NCAC) stormed back and looked to cut its deficit in half, but a pair of shot attempts were turned aside by first-year Katie Shideler. For the game, Shideler logged four saves.

Wooster finished with a 12-9 edge on shots and a plus-five mark on penalty corners.

Earlham's Camille van der Vaart tallied a game-high six saves.

Notable, Wooster's 6-2 record marks the best eight-game stretch to start a season since the Scots opened the 2009 slate with eight straight wins, while the shutout marks the fourth of the season.

Wooster remains at home to take on DePauw University tomorrow, Sept. 24, at noon.
