Junior Erika Womack redirected a feed from first-year Caitlyn O'Connor with 16:02 remaining for the go-ahead goal and junior Katie Padavick recorded a key defensive save with just under seven minutes remaining as The College of Wooster field hockey team opened the second round of North Coast Athletic Conference regular season play with a 2-1 win over Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday morning at Delaware, Ohio.

Ohio Wesleyan (5-8, 1-7 North Coast Athletic Conference) struck first in what was a much more offensive-minded game than the first meeting of the season between the two squad, won by Wooster (8-4, 5-3 NCAC) 1-0 in overtime back on Sept. 6. The Battling Bishops' Alexis Roberts gained separation in front of the cage to knock in her ninth goal of the season in the 16th minute off the assist from Julia Meno.

Wooster's Sydney Schuster earned a good look in the 29th minute with Alycia Goins turning the shot away, but the Scots' first-year cleaned up on a loose ball :31 later for the equalizer, marking for the forward's fifth goal of the season.

That's where the score stood until the 54th minute, when the Scots' persistence came through off a penalty corner. First-year Kristina Miesel fired the ball out to sophomore Harriet Sudduth at the top of the circle, and Sudduth's good look was knocked away by Goins. O'Connor stuck with the play and was right there for the rebound, and eventually worked the ball to Womack for the junior's team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Wooster kept up the offensive intensity after the go-ahead goal until Ohio Wesleyan gained the momentum with under 10 minutes remaining, thanks to a pair of penalty corners. Wooster's defense stepped up as first-year Katie Shideler recorded four of her game-high 10 saves during the closing stretch. Additionally, the Bishops had one get behind Shideler, but Padavick was right there for her fourth career defensive save.

Wooster finished with a 30-19 edge on shots, while Ohio Wesleyan doubled up on penalty corners 8-4.

Goins logged 17 saves for the Bishops.

Wooster closes out its four-game road trip at Denison University (8-3, 5-2 NCAC) in a 4:30 p.m. contest on Tuesday.
