WOOSTER, Ohio – Washington & Jefferson College struck late in the first-half and doubled down less than five minutes into the second half to secure a 2-0 victory over The College of Wooster field hockey team on Wednesday night at John P. Papp Stadium.

Washington & Jefferson (9-3, 5-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference) earned their sixth shutout of the year behind respective goals from Alana Boyd and Jenna Jaworski.

For Wooster (8-7, 5-5 North Coast Athletic Conference), junior Maeven Barry found herself with a solid opportunity to break a nil-nil score in the 19th minute, as first-year Kristina Miesel delivered a well-weighted through-ball between W&J's backline for a one-on-one opportunity before the Presidents' Karlie Baran rushed out to cut off the angle and deny the goal-scoring chance.

In the 32nd-minute, Jaworski, after initiating the counter-attack down the right side, found a streaking Boyd at the back post with a through-ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Katie Shideler for the open finish.

Wooster was outshot 6-1 in the opening 35 minutes.

Just under five minutes into the second frame, Jaworski earned her fourth goal of the season after taking advantage of a loose ball in the box for the unassisted tally.

In the 56th minute, Baran did well to deflect a shot from junior Erika Womack, whose shot found its way through a parting defense off the penalty corner from Miesel.

Five minutes later, Womack witnessed a second attempt go wide. Within the final two minute of the game, Wooster amped up the offensive pressure with two shots in the final 48 seconds.

Again, Barry managed a shot on frame after diving for the attempt through two defenders while sophomore Harriet Sudduth saw her attempt blocked in the game's waning seconds.

In the second half, Wooster turned the tables, outshooting the Presidents 6-3 while maintaining an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners through the full 70 minutes. Both Baran and Shideler ended with four saves.

With four league games remaining, fifth-place Wooster turns its attention to Earlham College (4-8, 3-7 NCAC) as the Fighting Scots head west for an 11 a.m. match on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Richmond, Ind.
