Two first-half goals lifted DePauw University to a 2-0 victory over The College of Wooster field hockey team on Sunday afternoon at Reavis Stadium in Greencastle, Ind.

Wooster's defense held the Tigers (10-6, 8-4 North Coast Athletic Conference), the preseason conference favorite, in check while the offense found few opportunities to convert. The Fighting Scots (8-9, 5-7 NCAC) managed four shots in the second half as the Tigers outshot the visitors 29-4 on the game.

DePauw tallied the game-winner in the 12th minute as Paige Berliner recorded her sixth goal of the season off the assist from Reilly Bruce. Nearly 14 minutes later, Alexa Steil doubled the
Tigers' advantage off the pass from Grace Waldman.

A close call for the Scots came midway through the second half, as senior Lauren Abbott delivered a penalty corner to junior Erika Womack, whose blocked shot rolled to sophomore
Harriet Sudduth, as she attempted her lone shot of the day, only to be blocked again.

First-year goalkeeper Katie Shideler ended with 14 saves on the day, highlighted by a penalty stroke save in the 53rd minute to keep the score within reach. Senior Emma Roderick recorded a defensive save in the 65th minute.

Up next, Wooster hosts Kenyon College on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 4 p.m. at John P. Papp Stadium.
