Scots Cap "Senior Day", Season in Style with 4-0 Win over Oberlin

WOOSTER, Ohio – First-year Sydney Schuster recorded her second hat trick of the season and classmate Kristina Miesel provided a fourth as The College of Wooster field hockey team tallied its sixth shutout victory of the season with a 4-0 victory over Oberlin College on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

Waiting in the box for a feed from first-year Sammi Pavlecic, Schuster opened the scoring in the 18th minute with her eighth tally of the season.

The scored remained 1-0 heading into the halftime break with the Fighting Scots (9-10, 6-8 North Coast Athletic Conference) leading the shot total, 8-3.

The Scots came out on the offensive to start the second with two early penalty corners and a shot to no avail.

Ten minutes later, back-to-back penalty corners from senior Lauren Abbott led to an open shot by Pavlecic, whose initial attempt was saved before Schuster came in for the open rebound put-away to make it 2-0 in the 47th minute.

After a trio of substitutions in the 54th minute, including Miesel for first-year Caitlyn O'Connor, the Scots tripled their advantage with Meisel shooting on an open net after junior Maeven Barry did well to outsprint her opponent down the right flank and dive at the ball to make the diagonal assist to O'Connor.

To cap the hat trick, Schuster scored in the 68th minute off a quick pass from Abbott for her eighth assist of the season, marking the first Scot to tally eight or more assists since Kerry O'Connor in 2014.

Wooster's 9-10 recorded matched last year's, while Oberlin finished the 2017 campaign at 1-19 and 0-14 in the NCAC.

The Scots outshot Oberlin 14-6 and 11-5 in penalty corners. First-year Katie Shideler recorded two saves. Schuster ended the season as the Scots' leading scorer with 10 goals.
