AURORA, New York – The Jill Dixon era at the College of Wooster started off decent enough as the head coach collected her first win Saturday in the team's

season opener with a 14-1 victory over Wells College.

Sophomore Sydney Schuster tallied four goals and two assists, senior Erika Womack scored three, sophomore Sammi Pavlecic scored two goals and assisted on another and sophomore Caitlyn O'Connor added two goals.

So, how decent was it?

The 14 goals tied a North Coast Athletic Conference record and was one short of the school record. Wooster last scored 14 against Muskingum in 1985.

Schuster's four goals was one short of the NCAC record.

O'Connor and Schuster started the scoring early with Wooster's first two goals in the 2nd and 15th minutes respectively. Schuster then scored again in the 28th minute of the first half off a rebound.

Pavlecic scored both of her goals in the first 30 minutes in the 19th and 29th minutes.

Womack scored two of her goals in the first half in the 26th and 30th minute. Her second goal gave the Fighting Scots a 7-0 lead entering the half.

Schuster started the second half with her third goal in the 42nd minute. Then her teammates got in on the action.

O'Connor scored her second in the 44th minute, Harriet Sudduth scored in the 51st and Maggie Brown followed in the 52nd.

Womack tallied her third in the 55th minute before Maeven Barry scored in the 61st. Finally, Schuster closed the scoring for the Scots with her fourth goal in the 68th minute on another rebound goal.

Wells (0-2) scored with 30 seconds to go with a goal from Chloe Marcus to prevent the shutout.

Also adding an assist in the game for the Scots were Rose Taylor, Grace O'Leary, Katie Agatucci and Barry.

Katie Shideler made three saves in the cage for the win. Wooster outshot Wells 56-8 and held the advantage in penalty corners 19-5. Wells goalie Allison Solomon ended with 33 saves.

Last year the Scots opened the season with an 8-0 win over Wells. In that game, Schuster led the way with three goals.

The Scots (1-0) return to action Sunday at Elmira College (1-0).
