WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster field hockey team struck early and often, and another stellar collective defensive effort resulted in the Fighting Scots' second shutout of the year, as the Black & Gold topped visiting Hendrix College 6-0 on a rainy Saturday morning at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (4-0) needed just 72 seconds to get on the board, as sophomore Sydney Schuster was left open in space and moved in for her fifth goal of the season.

Just past the nine-minute mark, sophomore Sammi Pavlecic's shot attempt was turned aside by Hendrix (0-2) 'keeper Alexis Truitt, but senior Erika Womack got a stick on the rebound for the first of three second-chance goals on the day by the Scots. Noteworthy, the goal marked Womack's team-leading seventh of the season.

Next, sophomore Caitlyn O'Connor put home a loose ball inside the circle to make it 3-0 in the 13th minute, and the forward found herself in the right place at the right time for a brace in the 31st minute. On her second goal, O'Connor positioned herself near the far post, and was able to push a rebound past Truitt for her sixth goal of the season. That capped a series of rapid shot attempts as Womack and Schuster both had good looks prior to O'Connor finishing with the goal.

Five student-athletes etched their name in the scoring column during Saturday's 6-0 win over Hendrix, including first-year Katie Agatucci.

First-year Katie Agatucci fired in a one-timer from about 10 yards out on the left wing to cap the first-half scoring.

Sticking with Agatucci, the first-year nearly had a brace of her own, but Truitt was able to get a pad on the shot attempt 14:30 into the second half. However, the rebound skipped right to sophomore Maggie Brown who lifted a shot into the cage for her second goal of the season.

Defensively, Wooster's biggest test came with just under four minutes left in the first half. That's when sophomore Katie Shideler made two of her three saves, and the Scots' 'keeper now has eight career shutouts.

Wooster finished with a 21-6 edge in shots, while each team had seven penalty corners.

Wooster has a quick turnaround, as Transylvania University (1-2) is in town for an 11 a.m. match on Sunday, Sept. 9.
