Sophomore Sammi Pavlecic deflected in the game-tying goal at the end of regulation, but No. 18 Washington & Jefferson College's Rachel Buyan scored her second goal of the contest in overtime to lift the undefeated Presidents over The College of Wooster field hockey team 2-1 on Tuesday evening at Cameron Stadium in Washington, Pa.

Wooster (10-5) senior Maeven Barry inserted a penalty corner to junior Harriet Sudduth with 10 ticks remaining in regulation, and Sudduth fired a shot attempt toward the cage that was blocked. A Washington & Jefferson (13-0) foul on the ensuing rebound gave Wooster one final chance at the game-tying goal. Barry again inserted to Sudduth, who fired the ball toward the far corner of the cage, where Pavlecic took charge and delivered her third goal of the season.

Wooster did a nice job defensively at the onset of overtime, as the Scots were quickly tested by three President shot attempts in the first two minutes.

In the 78th minute, Washington & Jefferson looked to push the pace into the circle, and that drew sophomore Katie Shideler out. The Scots' 'keeper deflected the ball away, but Buyan was able to gain possession, spin, and fire the game-winner into the cage.

Buyan accounted for the game's first goal in the 45th minute with a shot from center that deflected in off a defender.

Wooster's defense was kept busy all game as Washington & Jefferson ended the night with a 29-4 edge on shots and had 18 penalty corners. Shideler led the Scots' charge on that end of the field with a co-career-best 20 saves.

Next, Wooster (6-4 North Coast Athletic Conference) jumps back into conference play with an 11 a.m. tilt against DePauw University (7-7, 5-5 NCAC) on Saturday, Oct. 20.
