RICHMOND, Ind. – For the second time this week, The College of Wooster field hockey team came out on the wrong end of a 2-1 score, with host Earlham College winning Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference contest at Darrell Beane Stadium.
Earlham's (12-1, 3-0 NCAC) Jalyn Kelsey got in behind Wooster's (5-6, 1-3 NCAC) defense and tipped in the go-ahead score at the back post in the 39th minute.
Wooster had just one shot after Kelsey's go-ahead goal, with that coming with 10:05 remaining. The Quakers' Meg Murphy logged save three on the day by denying senior Syd Schuster.
The Fighting Scots tied the game at one with 1:53 remaining in the first half. Junior Lucy Agurkis played a ball toward goal that deflected off senior Katie Agatucci's stick, went underneath Murphy's pad, and to sophomore Ciara O'Connor, who scored for the second straight game.
Wooster had a tough break 3:30 into the game. Earlham's Denise Bergdolt fired a shot off from just inside the circle on a penalty corner that was blocked. Regan Seeman knocked the ball from midair into the cage for her sixth goal of the year.
Earlham outshot Wooster 15-5 and had six penalty corners to the Scots' one.
Wooster junior Zoë Semersky collected seven saves.
Wooster's Indiana swing continues on Sunday with a noon game at DePauw University (4-8, 2-2 NCAC).
