Offensive Outburst Leads to Honor for Johnson

Mary Johnson, Wooster Field Hockey A quick offensive start to the season resulted in sophomore Mary Johnson earning the first North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week award of the year on Tuesday.

Johnson scored a career-high three goals in The College of Wooster field hockey team's 5-0 rout of Nazareth University on Saturday. Johnson's goals are tied for the third-most in a NCAA Div. III game on the young season. The forward's first score of the afternoon made it a 2-0 game. On that strike, Johnson finished an entry feed to the middle from senior Delaney Gross.

The team's 2022 leading scorer won a one-on-one battle with Nazareth's goalkeeper in the third quarter and knocked in a defensive save that was played out to the middle just in front of the cage in the fourth stanza.

Wooster (1-0) is back in action on Saturday, September 8, when the Fighting Scots play at Bridgewater College (Virginia) (1-0) at 1 p.m.
