Brenda Meese

Now in her 26th year at The College of Wooster and 36th overall as a head field hockey coach, Brenda Meese ranks among the national leaders in both career victories and winning percentage. In 2013, she became the seventh in NCAA Div. III history, and the 15th among all divisions, to reach the 400-win milestone, and she currently sports a 417-251-10 (.622) all-time record.

Meese, who owns a mark of 293-188-4 (.608) over 25 seasons at Wooster, has been at the helm of five North Coast Athletic Conference championship teams (2001, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2009), highlighted by outright titles in 2001 and 2006. The Fighting Scots also have three appearances in the NCAA Div. III Championships (2001, 2009, 2010) during Meese’s tenure, including a first-round win when Wooster served as host for a 2009 NCAA game – a first in program history. Overall, the Scots have produced six win totals of 15 or more, most recently 16-6 during 2010, and 18 winning records under Meese.

A 1975 Wooster graduate, Meese spent 10 years as the field hockey coach at the State University of New York at Oneonta before returning to her alma mater in 1989. At Oneonta State, she guided her teams to a 124-63-6 record (.658), 10 state tournaments, and three trips to the national field.

In addition to all of her coaching achievements, Meese is quite the athlete herself. As an undergraduate, she excelled at field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse to the point that she was inducted into the W Association Hall of Fame in 2009. Today, she is an avid cyclist, putting thousands of miles on her bike on an annual basis, often times internationally.

Meese, who earned her master's degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is currently pursuing her doctorate, has worked at many Olympic Development Camps and was the Division III representative for the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. She is also an associate professor and assistant athletic director at Wooster.
