Tenth-Ranked Scots Hit 100-Point Mark Again, Roll Over Gators 104-73

The College of Wooster, up four spots to No. 10 in this week's D3hoops.com top-25 poll, reached the 100-point mark for the second game in a row, this time rolling past Allegheny College by a 104-73 count for a North Coast Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday night in Meadville, Pa.

Wooster (14-2, 8-1 NCAC), which remains in a first-place tie in the conference standings alongside Ohio Wesleyan University (13-3, 8-1 NCAC), exchanged successful offensive possessions with Allegheny (8-8, 5-4 NCAC) for most of the opening 12 minutes before seizing control.

After the Gators took their second lead of the game at 24-23, the Fighting Scots' Alex LaLonde drained a 3-pointer to kick start a 9-0 run that turned into a 30-8 stretch to close the half. Evan Pannell and Spencer Williams accounted for 24 of those 30 points – 12 apiece –and defensively, Wooster helped force Allegheny into 3-for-13 shooting from the floor and two turnovers, as the visitors suddenly had a 54-31 cushion at intermission.

The Scots maintained a 20-point advantage throughout the second half.

Wooster shot the ball very well again, finishing over 55 percent from the field (.576; 34-for-59) for the second-straight game and fourth time in the last seven. The Scots were also right at 55 percent from 3-point range (11-for-20) and nearly perfect at the free throw line (.893; 25-for-28).

Defensively, Wooster kept the Gators under 40 percent on field-goal attempts (.389; 28-for-72) and outrebouned them 45-30.

Pannell continued his standout season by scoring 23, his sixth game with at least that many points, and it came on an efficient 8-of-11 field goals (2-of-3 3-pointers) and 5-of-6 free throws, while Dan Fanelly and Williams each produced 17 points. The latter distributed a game-high six assists (one turnover) as well.

Also providing a lift was Josh Kipfer, who led all players with eight rebounds and dropped in 11 points.

Evan Zabriski tossed in 19 points for Allegheny.

The Scots will be home on Saturday against DePauw University (11-5, 4-5 NCAC), with tip time scheduled for 3 p.m.
