Alumnus Paris Tabbed to Lead Chattanooga's Men's Basketball Program

Lamont Paris

Lamont Paris, a 1996 alumnus of The College of Wooster, has accepted the position of head men's basketball coach at Div. I The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and a formal introduction is scheduled for noon on Tuesday.

"I would like to say that I'm very happy for Lamont and very proud of him," said Wooster head coach Steve Moore. "He's going to do an outstanding job at Chattanooga. Obviously, he was a huge part of the success at Wisconsin, and he's very deserving of being named a head coach."

Paris just completed his seventh season on the staff at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and his time with the Badgers included back-to-back appearances in the Final Four during the 2014-15 seasons, and an appearance in the national championship game in 2015.

Paris started his coaching career at Wooster, and spent two seasons on the Scots' bench before moving to DePauw University for two seasons. Then, Paris spent four years as an assistant coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania before returning to Northeast Ohio for a six-year stint at the University of Akron.

As a player, Paris blossomed into a starter as a senior and ranked third on the team with 10.4 points per game. The guard paired his scoring average with 3.9 and 3.7 rebounds and assists per game respectively. As a junior, Paris was one of the first Scots off of the bench, and he averaged 7.9 points per game to pair with 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

Paris played on teams that went 84-25, advanced to three NCAA Div. III Championships, and won two North Coast Athletic Conference titles.
