Three Scots Part of NABC Honors Court
Mahdi & Styers two-time members
Three College of Wooster men's basketball student-athletes are part of this year's prestigious National Association of Basketball Honors Court, as announced by the coaching association on Tuesday. Alumni Khaylen Mahdi and Brandon Styers earned the honor for the second time, while senior-to-be Nate Andrews qualified in his first year of eligibility.
Mahdi, a key guard for the winningest NCAA Div. III team of the 2000s, entered 26 games as a senior and averaged 4.6 minutes, 0.8 points, and 0.5 rebounds per game. The self-designed entrepreneurial studies alumnus scored a season-high five points against Denison University on February 16 and had two games with three rebounds.
Styers, a first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference performer, led Wooster with 15.6 points per game, a total seventh within the NCAC. The biology alumnus scored a career-high 34 points on 14-of-19 shooting against Kenyon College on January 12 and added 26 points in a win at DePauw University on January 22.
Andrews, a reserve forward, entered three games. He made his second debut against Allegheny College in December, and the biology major sank a pair of free throws in a win over Hiram College three days later.
NABC Honors Court membership is extended to those who are a junior or senior academically, are on the varsity roster, have at least a 3.2 GPA, and whose coach is NABC member.
Wooster went 19-9 this year and posted its 33rd consecutive full season with at least 18 victories.
