Sophomore Marcus Carano shot just three-over par through 36 holes to lead The College of Wooster men's golf team to sixth-place at the second weekend of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships series, which was hosted by Wabash College on Saturday and Sunday at the Crawfordsville Country Club in Crawfordsville, Ind.

Despite a 36-stroke improvement over its score from last weekend, the Fighting Scots weren't able to make a move up the standings, as they finished in seventh-place with a 72-hole score of 1244. That put Wooster within striking distance of the next five teams in front of it, as sixth-place Wabash College (1229) shot 15 strokes better, while second-place Kenyon College (1221) was only 23 away. Meanwhile, Wittenberg University cruised to the championship with its 1175.

Carano carded a one-over par 71 on Saturday while playing the par-70, 6,188-yard course, and then was nearly as good Sunday with a 72, giving him a two-day total of 143. He shot a 298 over 72 holes at the NCAC's, which earned him first-team all-conference recognition, as he finished sixth overall among 41 competitors. Carano was named an honorable mention last spring.

The Scots had another student-athlete turn in a top-15 performance, as sophomore Calvin Milligan added rounds of 77 and 74 to last weekend's 78 and 79, which tied him for 15th-place with a 308. That put him just four strokes away from being named second-team all-conference.

Rounding out those contributing towards Wooster's 604 at this weekend's portion of the NCAC's were T.J. Selby with a 79-76 (155), Scott Sears with a 78-77 (155), and Jackson Groat with an 84-78 (162). Selby is a junior and the rest of the Scots' scorers are underclassmen, meaning Wooster could be on the brink of breakout.
