After playing practice rounds at a number of outstanding courses during its annual spring break trip – five-star Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, Donald Ross-designed San Jose Country Club and Deerwood Country Club, both in Jacksonville, Fla., and the world-famous Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina – The College of Wooster men's golf team returned to competition on Tuesday with a dual against No. 3 Methodist University's "B" team.

Wooster pushed nationally-ranked Methodist throughout the match, held at Anderson Creek Golf Club in Spring Lake, N.C., but was ultimately done in by its putting struggles on the firm, sloped greens, according to head coach Rich Danch, as the Monarchs prevailed 311-332.

All six of the Fighting Scots' players shot in the 80s, paced by Jay Selby's 80. The senior led the team throughout the fall season (76.6 average) and now appears set to finish his career on a high note this spring.

Junior Calvin Milligan and sophomore Scott Sears carded matching 83s, while first-team all-North Coast Athletic Conference honoree Marcus Carano, a junior, made his return after missing the fall semester to study abroad with an 86.

Sophomore Michael Bay also put together a round of 86 and freshman Brenden Tully battled his way to an 89 during the windy conditions.

Wooster is set to return north and resume competition at Ohio Wesleyan University's Strimer Invitational, which will take place April 4-5 at Oakhaven Golf Course in Delaware, Ohio.
