The College of Wooster's men's golf team got in two rounds on Saturday and Sunday, as they took fourth-place at the eight-team Strimer Memorial Invitational, which Ohio Wesleyan University hosts annually at the Oakhaven Golf Course in Delaware, Ohio.
The Fighting Scots carded a 320 over the first 18 holes and then cut off a few strokes for a 316 on their second round, which gave them a 36-hole score of 636. That placed them right in front of Adrian College (640), but behind host Ohio Wesleyan (618), resulting in a fourth-place showing. Kenyon College, one of five North Coast Athletic Conference programs in action, took the team championship with a 603.
Marcus Carano paced Wooster and finished seventh overall in a field of 45 golfers with a 153. He was consistent, with almost identical rounds of 77 and 76. His teammate Scott Sears was nearly as good, as he matched Carano's 77 on the initial 18 and then added a second-round 78 for a 155 – which tied him for 10th overall individually.
Next in line was Calvin Milligan, who was much better his second time through the course (86-78) en route to a 164, while Jay Selby finished a stroke back of Milligan with a 165 after rounds of 80 and 85. Finally, Michael Bay rounded out Wooster's team score with a 171.
Next weekend, the Scots will be back on the greens for the Ted Barclay Invitational, which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Granville, Ohio.
