Keyed by a strong performance from freshman Charlie Holt, The College of Wooster men's golf squad scored the third-lowest round during Sunday's 18 holes at the Purple Raider Invitational, held at Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance, Ohio, but the Fighting Scots weren't quite able to move up a spot in the standings and wound up in fourth-place out of the competitive seven-team field.

After a solid 305 on Saturday at the par-72, 6694-yard course, Wooster went four strokes lower (301) and totaled 606, which put four of the five northeast Ohio schools at the event – Baldwin Wallace University (596), host University of Mount Union (601), and John Carroll University (603) – all within 10 of each other.

Muskingum University (616), Westminster (Pa.) College (628), and Hiram College (639) rounded out the field.

Holt stood out both days, finishing the 36 holes in just three-over par with a 74 and 73. The 147 overall put him in a five-way tie for fifth-place among the 65 participants.

The Scots' No. 1 player, senior Marcus Carano, matched Holt's 74 Saturday and followed with a 79 during the second 18 to tie for 17th, while also totaling a 153 was fellow senior Calvin Milligan on scores of 76 and 77.

Raghu Bir Choudhary, a member of the first-year class, contributed to the team score each day, entering the clubhouse with an 81 and 77 while tying for 33rd-place (158). Last weekend's low scorer, sophomore Brenden Tully, shook off an opening 89 and came through with a 74 on Sunday to help Wooster close the gap.

The Scots did have another top-10 finisher in Andrew DeLaat. The freshman was competing as an individual and delivered consistently strong rounds of 74 and 75 to take 10th (149).

Wooster will be idle from competition next weekend, then host the annual Nye Intercollegiate on Oct. 10-11 at the Wooster Country Club.
