Scots Return to Action at Renowned Courses, Dual with Nationally-Ranked Div. II FIT

 Brenden Tully
 Marcus Carano

The College of Wooster men's golf team returned to action during its annual spring break trip, first with a few practice rounds, and then with a match-play tournament against nationally-ranked Div. II Florida Institute of Technology "B" team on Wednesday at Melbourne, Fla.

The Fighting Scots opened their trip on Sunday, with a round at The Club as Osprey Cove, rated as a "Top 100 Modern Course" by Golf and Travel. Then, Wooster teed off at the Rees Jones-designed RedStick Golf Club on Monday, a unique club with only 275 members.

On Wednesday, Wooster returned to competition and really pushed FIT at the Duran Golf Club, with the Panthers ultimately taking the match 5-1.

Brenden Tully had a strong start to his spring slate, turning in the Scots' win via a two-up triumph over the Panthers' Valentin Riviere. Marcus Carano and Charlie Holt had strong outings at the top of Wooster's linup, with both matches coming down to the 18th-hole and ending in one-down decisions.

Of note was the diversity displayed on the course as the FIT squad featured five international players in its six-man lineup. In fact, in one foursome, four separate countries were represented in Tully (United States), Raghu Bir Choudhary (India), and FIT competitors from France and Scotland.

Wooster's scores were rounded out by Choudhary (two-down), Scott Sears (3 and 2), and Andrew DeLaat (4 and 3).

During the trip, the Scots welcomed Sears back to the squad after spending the fall semester studying abroad.

The Scots have seven more practice rounds on the books for their trip, weather permitting. Highlighting the remaining stops on Wooster's trip is the Ocean Course at Ponte Vedra Inn & Club - the course selected to host the 1939 Ryder Cup Match, prior to the early onset of World War II leading to the cancellation of the event.

Wooster opens the northern portion of its schedule at the Strimer Invitational at Delaware, Ohio on April 2.
