DeLaat's 72 Helps Lead Scots to Third-Place Finish at Strimer Memorial Invitational

 Andrew DeLaat

Andrew DeLaat was unfazed by the adverse weather conditions on Sunday at the Strimer Memorial Invitational as the freshman tied for the low score of the tournament at 1-over-par to lead The College of Wooster men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Oakhaven Golf Club in Delaware, Ohio.

DeLaat, who turned in a career-low round of 72, was edged out for medalist honors by Kenyon College's Mason McCool, who also finished at 1-over-par, but carded a lower score on the back-nine.

The Lords won the team title with their 296 coming in 10 strokes ahead of the Scots' 306. Denison University finished between the two North Coast Athletic Conference rivals with a 304. Wooster did finish ahead of regional competitors Ohio Wesleyan University (307), Otterbein University (307), Adrian College (308), and Thomas More College (309), who were all right on the Scots' heals.

Marcus Carano continued to provide stability at the top of the lineup, as the senior backed DeLaat up with a 4-over-par 75 to finish tied for ninth. Carano now has seven rounds on the year of 75 or better.

Brenden Tully turned in the third-lowest round of the day with a 77 and tied for 20th. The Scots' lineup was rounded out by Charlie Holt (82) and Calvin Milligan (93) who finished tied for 43rd and 68th respectively in the highly-competitive field.

Scott Sears led a trio of Scots who competed as individuals in the tournament with an 80.

The tournament was shorted from 36 to 18 holes due to Saturday's weather.

Wooster is back in action at the Ted Barclay Invitational, held at the Granville Golf Club, April 9-10.
