Carano Caps Career with Third All-NCAC Certificate, as Scots Climb to Fifth in NCAC Championship Series

Senior Marcus Carano capped his career with a third all-conference certificate, and had the second-lowest score over the final 36 holes of the 72-hole NCAC Championship Series.

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's golf team climbed past Ohio Wesleyan University over the final 18 holes Sunday to finish in fifth-place in the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship Series, with the second 36 holes contested this weekend at the Wooster Country Club.

Wittenberg University cruised to a 15-stroke win at 1,178 strokes, while Allegheny College finished second at 1,193. The Gators featured the top-two individuals in the field in Jimmy Lasher, the overall medalist with a 2-over-par 290, and Robby Pickett.

The Fighting Scots really made up ground on the Battling Bishops on Saturday when they turned in their low round of the two-weekend, 72-hole championship with a 308. Wooster followed with a 315 Sunday to finish at 1,256 strokes.

Ohio Wesleyan, which entered the second event of the championship series 15 strokes ahead of the Scots, turned in a 641 the final 36 holes for a 1,259 total.

Marcus Carano led the way for Wooster in the championship, earning his third all-conference certificate in the process. Carano, a second-team honoree, tied for seventh with a 301, but really stepped up during his final collegiate event. The senior took charge on his home course on Saturday with a 1-under-par 71, and followed with a 75 on Sunday for a 146, the second-lowest score of the final 36 holes.

Charlie Holt tied for 24th for the championship series at 317. The freshman had a strong bounce-back to open the second weekend of play, turning in his low round of 75, before following with an 80 on Sunday. Holt tied for 13th when only factoring in the scores from the second event of the championship series.

Andrew DeLaat and Brenden Tully both tied for 28th-place for the championship series at 324. DeLaat continued to showcase consistency with his third-straight 80 on Saturday before carding an 84. Tully shot a 163 for the weekend.

Calvin Milligan rounded out this weekend's lineup. The senior bounced back from an 87 on Saturday to fire a 79 on Sunday – the Scots' second-lowest round of the day.

Wooster began the weekend in sixth-place with 633 strokes, with the first 36 holes having taken place at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Streetsboro, Ohio.
