The College of Wooster men's golf team capped its fall slate with its first sub-300 round of the year as the Fighting Scots carded a 297 in the third round of the 54-hole BSN Fall Invitational on Monday to finish at 917 strokes and in eighth-place at the Chapel Hill Golf Course in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.
Host Kenyon College won the nine-team tournament at 875 strokes, two better than Carnegie Mellon University. Muskingum University's Luke Janci shot a 2-under-par 70 in the third round to capture the tiebreaker for medalist honors at 216.
Sophomore Andrew DeLaat led the charge for Wooster in the fall finale. DeLaat carded a 2-under-par 70 on Monday at the par-72, 6856-yard course to finish tied for 13th-place at 221. DeLatt's Monday round marked a six-shot improvement from a 76 in the second round, and he opened play on Sunday with a 75.
Freshmen Mac Bellovich and Jimmy Hinton both tied for 46th-place for the tourney at 232. The duo both had a 74 in a round on the cards with Bellovich's coming on Monday, and Hinton's in Sunday's second round.
Freshman Evan Ferrara was one stroke back at 233 and tied for 48th-place. Ferrara's round was highlighted by a 76 in the final round.
Sophomore Ric Reynolds rounded out the lineup with a 248 and placed 72nd. Reynolds capped his fall with a 77 on Monday, his best round of the tournament by eight strokes.
Wooster had seven players compete as individuals in the tournament. Senior Scott Sears led that group with a 226 to finish tied for 34th-place. Sears tied for the lowest round of the tournament by a Scot with a 2-under-par 70 on Monday.
Notable, Wooster's 9-over-par 297 on Monday marked the team's lowest round since the Scots turned in a 289 at the Strimer Memorial Invitational on April 14, 2013.
Wooster returns the services of Brenden Tully when the spring slate commences, as the junior is currently studying abroad.
