The College of Wooster men's golf team had three scores within a three-stroke gap in the lineup and improved by five strokes on Sunday during the Fighting Scots' fourth-place showing at the six-team Ted Barclay Invitational held at the Denison Golf Club in Granville, Ohio. Wooster shot a 631 for the tournament.
Wooster's veterans led the way on the weekend in what marked the final tournament for the Scots prior to the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship Series, a two-weekend tournament slated to begin at the Country Club of Meadville in Meadville, Pa. on April 22.
Senior Scott Sears turned in a pair of 77s on the weekend to finish at 154 and in a tie for 13th-place. Junior Brenden Tully was right behind with a pair of 78s on the board for the weekend to place 19th with a 156. Sophomore Andrew DeLaat rounded out the tightly-grouped threesome with rounds of 78 and 79, for a 157 and a share of 20th-place.
First-year Jimmy Hinton and sophomore Raghu Bir Choudhary rounded out the lineup on the weekend. Hinton had a six-stroke improvement from Saturday to Sunday, and in fact tied for the third-lowest Sunday round out of the Scots' lineup with a 79. Hinton shot a 164 for the two-day tournament and tied for 33rd. Bir Choudhary added a 167 with rounds of 86 and 81, and he tied for 37th-place.
Wooster had five student-athletes compete as individuals on the weekend and first-year Paul Ryee led that group with a 154, good for a share of 13th-place.
Ohio Wesleyan University led the way with a 597 while Denison's Jonathan Taylor earned medalist honors with a 3-over-par 145.
