Wooster Part of Crowded Middle Pack at NCACs

Evan Ferrara

The College of Wooster men's golf team matched is spring best with a 311 on Saturday and sits in seventh-place in the team standings after Sunday, as the first event of the two-weekend North Coast Athletic Conference Golf Championship Series wrapped up at the Country Club of Meadville in Meadville, Pa.

Wooster continued its consistent spring as the Scots shot a collective 318 on Sunday, and sit at 629 strokes with 36 holes remaining in the championship series. Notable, all six of the Black and Gold's spring rounds have come in between 311 and 318.

Wittenberg University leads the nine-team field at 1-over-par (577) while Allegheny College and DePauw University tied for second-place with 36-hole team scores of 608. Wooster is within striking distance of several teams in the field as Kenyon College (616), Denison University (618), and Ohio Wesleyan University (621) sit just ahead of Wooster.

Individually, Wittenberg's Garrett Brickley navigated the par-72, 6687-yard course with a 2-under-par 142 two take a one-stroke lead into the second event, but six strokes separate places eight-through-26 with two of Wooster's five golfers in the crowded mix.

First-year Evan Ferrara leads the way for Wooster, and he's currently tied for 16th-place at 155. Ferrara opened the championship series with a 77 prior to his 78 on Sunday.

Classmate Paul Ryee turned in the lowest round of the weekend for Wooster with a 76, and he's currently tied for 27th-place at 158 after Saturday's 82.

Sophomore Andrew DeLaat sits just above Ryee in the standings with a 157. DeLaat led-off the championship series with a 79, and bettered that by a stroke on Sunday to sit at 157.

Junior Brenden Tully turned in back-to-back 80s and is in 34th-place, while senior Scott Sears is tied for 36th-place at 162. Sears had a 79 on his Saturday card, before turning in an 83 on Sunday.

The NCAC Championship Series continues on April 29 at the Royal American Links in Galena, Ohio.
