Wooster Places Sixth at NCAC Championships

MANSFIELD, Ohio – First-year Colin O'Hern claimed All-North Coast Athletic Conference honorable mention status with a team-low 229 over the weekend, good for an 11th-place tie overall, as The College of Wooster men's golf team finished sixth of nine at the NCAC Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Westbrook Country Club.

At 941 (307-312-322) on the weekend, the Fighting Scots finished four strokes back of fifth-place DePauw University and two strokes ahead of seventh-place Denison University. Wittenberg University placed first overall (898) en route to its ninth straight conference title.

O'Hern ended the three-day tournament with a final-round 78 over the 6910-yard par-72 course. After opening with three straight bogies, O'Hern went even through the next eight holes into the back nine, including a birdie on the 442-yard par-4 No. 10.

Sophomore Evan Ferrara shot a team-low 77 on the day. The Kent, Ohio native birdied the 506-yard par-5 No. 8 to get back to one-over before finishing at five-over on the day with back-to-back bogies on the final two holes.

After shooting a 77 on Friday and 78 on Saturday, first-year David Roney turned in an 86 on Sunday for the third-lowest team finish and good for 29th overall. Roney pared five holes and birdied the par-5 No. 12. Behind Roney and tied for 30th overall was senior Brenden Tully, who shot five over after the turn but struggled to rebound after a 45 on the front nine.

Sophomore Jimmy Hinton rounded out the Scots' quintet one shot back of Tully at 244 on the weekend to finished tied for 32nd. Hinton closed his first NCAC tournament appearance with a final-round 82, including a one-over stretch over last the final eight holes.
