DOVER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's golf team fired a 295 on Sunday, a total tied for the second-lowest round of the day, and in doing so, charged up the leaderboard to third-place at 594 in the season-opening Gatorade Collegiate hosted by the College at the par-72, 6,730-yard Zoar Golf Club.

Junior Evan Ferrara was the Fighting Scots' low man on the weekend with a 1-over-par 145, and placed fifth. Ferrara rolled through the front nine on Sunday at 3-under-par thanks to a three-hole run of birdies on the par-3, 205-yard fourth hole, the par-4, 390-yard fifth hole, and the par-3, 170-yard sixth hole. Later, the Scots' No. 1 birdied the par-4, 340-yard 17th hole to move back to even par, before bogeying No. 18 for a 73. On Saturday, Ferrara shot a 72, and was at 1-under-par heading into No. 17.

Junior Mac Bellovich and sophomore David Roney tied for eighth-place at 147.

Bellovich's stellar weekend ended in style with a birdie on the par-4, 421-yard No. 18 that brought him back to even par. Bellovich was 2-over-par heading into No. 15, and picked up a birdie on the par-3, 165-yard hole. Bellovich checked in with a 75 on Saturday.

Roney's 1-over-par 73 marked the Scots' second-lowest score on Saturday. The sophomore turned in a steady first 18-hole round of the season with six pars to start and 14 for the opening day. Roney moved back to 1-over-par on Saturday with a birdie on No. 14. Roney's steady play on the front nine carried over to Sunday with eight pars to start before a birdie on No. 9 had the Scots' No. 3 man at 1-under-par at the turn. Roney carded a 74 on Sunday.

Senior Andrew DeLaat and first-year Ben Foltz rounded out the Scots' weekend lineup.

DeLaat opened with a 79 and closed with a 77 to finish in a tie for 32nd-place at 156. The senior's weekend was headlined by a pair of birdies on Sunday's front nine.

Foltz wasn't far behind at 159, which placed the rookie in a tie for 38th. Foltz turned in three birdies on the weekend, all of which came on the front nine.

Five Scots competed as part of Wooster's "B" team at the tournament. Junior Paul Ryee's 72 on Sunday marked the low score of the quintet, while senior Ric Reynolds nearly stole the show on the par-4, 340-yard No. 17. Reynolds' tee shot during Sunday's round rolled out to approximately a foot from the hole, leaving the senior a short tap-in for birdie.

Baldwin Wallace University led the eight-team field with a 582, while Miami University Hamilton earned runner-up honors at 592.

Rosemont College's Michael Lange earned medalist honors with a 5-under-par 139. The junior mastered the course on Sunday with a 67, and was 4-under-par on the back nine.

Next, Wooster travels to Meadville, Pa. for Allegheny College's Guy Kuhn Invitational held Sept. 9-10.
