Wooster Concludes Fall Season at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course

Gabe Guthrie, Wooster Men's Golf NOTRE DAME, Indiana – The College of Wooster men's golf team posted near-identical scores of 313 and 312 to finish at 625 and in seventh-place at the 15-team NCAA Div. III Region 5 Preview, which took place Monday and Tuesday at the University of Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course.

Junior Krish Nayak was the top performing Fighting Scot, firing a 151, which was tied for sixth-place in the 95-competitor field. Nayak was electric in the tournament's opening round, playing 13 holes at par or better. Nayak was 1-over-par on the 3,321-yard front nine, scoring birdies on the par-4, 436-yard sixth hole and the par-4, 414-yard eighth hole. On the 3,423-yard back nine, Nayak had seven pars. In round two, Nayak played both splits at 3-over-par, and had birdies sandwiched around the traditional turn of the shotgun-started round.

Sophomore Gabe Guthrie's 156 was second within the Scots' quintet, and that score was tied for 23rd-place. On Monday, Guthrie shot an 80 with 11 pars, including all three par-5 holes. Guthrie followed that up with a 76, spearheaded by playing holes 13 through 18 at 2-under-par. Guthrie rolled in birdies on the par-3, 197-yard 14th hole and the par-5, 480-yard 17th hole.

Senior Jacob Ullom was two strokes back of Guthrie, and that placed the returning first-team all-conference performer in a tie for 32nd-place. Ullom's fall finale was headlined by an eagle on the par-5, 480-yard 17th hole, and he played 21 holes at par or better.

First-year Andrew Carey's 160 was tied for 39th-place. Like Ullom, Carey had matching single-round scores for the tournament. Carey birdied No. 10 on Monday and had 10 holes at par or better before logging two birdies in round two, including at the par-5, 518-yard fifth hole.

Sophomore Mark Towns tied for 64th-place at 168. Towns opened with an 85 and closed with an 83. The sophomore played holes 14 through 18 at 2-under-par on Tuesday with back-to-back birdies on the par-4, 380-yard 15th and par-4, 345-yard 16th holes.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology led the 15-team field at 585. Rose-Hulman's Austin Frick was the medalist at 3-under-par, finishing six strokes clear of teammate Ryan Beerheide.

Wooster concluded its fall season with three tournament titles, two medalist honors, and two additional individual runner-up finishes. Wooster's spring season starts in March.
