Scots Tie for Fourth at Nye Intercollegiate

Jake Cammarata, Wooster Golf WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's golf team tied for fourth-place at the program's annual Nye Intercollegiate, which was held at the par-72, 6,545-yard Wooster Country Club this weekend. Wooster was in contention after day one with an opening day 315, then the Fighting Scots shot a 321 to finish at 636.

Senior Tyler Hilbert tied for fourth-place in his home finale. Hilbert signed for rounds of 76 and 79. The senior made an immediate birdie on the par-5, 491-yard opening hole on Saturday and rolled in another birdie on the par-5, 534-yard seventh hole. In fact, Hilbert was 3-under-par in the opening round on the par-5 holes, as he sank another birdie on the 466-yard 13th hole. He remained at 3-under-par for the tournament on the par 5s, with both of Sunday's birdies coming there. Hilbert turned at 2-over-par on Sunday and played holes 13 through 16 in his final collegiate round at Wooster Country Club at 1-under-par.

Sophomore Gabe Guthrie was next, tying for 10th-place at 159. Guthrie carded an opening 80 and a closing 79. Guthrie's best play Saturday came just before the turn, as the sophomore rolled in a birdie on the par-3, 168-yard eighth hole and played holes six through nine at 1-under-par. On Sunday, Guthrie found his rhythm late, starting with a par on the 466-yard 13th hole. Guthrie sank two birdies over the next three holes for a stretch of 2-under-par spanning holes 13 through 17.

First-year Andrew Carey was next, tying for 15th-place at 160. Carey's strong start saw the newcomer turn at 2-over-par on Saturday with seven pars on the opening nine holes. He was also 2-over-par at the turn on Sunday, thanks in part to birdies on No. 1 and the par-4, 400-yard fourth hole.

Senior Jacob Ullom tied for 29th-place with a 165. His 79 on Saturday was the team's No. 2 round of the day. An eagle dropped for Ullom on No. 7, and the senior played holes 13 through 17 at even par. In round two, Ullom sank a birdie on No. 7 to make him 3-under-par on the hole for the tournament.

Sophomore Mark Towns rounded out the lineup and tied for 33rd-place. Towns shot 84 and 83. The sophomore started strong on Sunday, playing the front nine at 2-over-par. Towns' Sunday birdie came on No. 4 and the front nine stretch was capped with four straight pars.

First-year Jake Cammarata led Wooster's "B team" with a second collegiate top-10 finish. Cammarata put together rounds of 80 and 79. The first-year turned at 3-over-par on Saturday with five holes at par or better on the front nine. On Sunday, Cammarata was even better, shooting 1-over-par over the opening nine holes, and he played 12 holes at par or better for the round.

Otterbein University won the 10-team tournament with a 626. The Cardinals' Ian Johnston was the medalist with a 4-over-par 148.

Next, Wooster competes at the John Carroll University Spring Invitational April 21-22.
