Scots Post Low Round of the Day; Three Earn All-NCAC Honors

Tyler Hilbert, Wooster Golf WESTFIELD CENTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's golf team shot even lower, with the Fighting Scots capping the year with a 3-over-par 283 – the best round of the day – in the final round of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships. Wooster placed fifth with a three-day score of 869.

Senior Tyler Hilbert nearly topped his collegiate-best, set just yesterday, as a birdie on the No. 9 finishing hole that would have capped his career with a 2-under-par 68 just missed. Hilbert cleaned up for a 69 to finish Wooster with back-to-back 1-under-par 69s. Hilbert's play over the last two days netted the senior his first All-NCAC award. Hilbert was a second-team finisher after tying for ninth-place at 214. Hilbert was 1-under-par on Westfield's par-70, 6,646-yard North Course front nine and he either birdied or pared every hole. The birdie in that stretch came on the par-4, 365-yard sixth hole, which Hilbert drove the green and had about a 20-foot look for eagle.

Senior Jacob Ullom and first-year Andrew Carey joined Hilbert on the all-conference team, with both earning third-team laurels. Ullom's career concluded with a 1-over-par 71, and the senior shot 215 for the tournament, which was the 11th-place score. The two-time all-conference performer carded a birdie on the par-4, 421-yard first hole, which came just after the turn. Ullom's final nine collegiate holes went back to even par after a birdie dropped on the par-3, 183-yard eighth hole. Of note, Ullom graduates as the program's first multi-time all-conference performer since alumnus Marcus Carano was a three-time All-NCAC performer from 2014-16.

Carey tied for 13th-place at 218 following a 73 on Sunday. Carey shot 3-over-par or better for each round of the NCAC Championships. Similar to his Saturday round, Carey carded a birdie on the opening hole, which came at the par-4, 426-yard 10th hole on Sunday. He turned at 2-over-par after a birdie fell on the par-5, 604-yard 18th hole, and Carey was sitting at 1-under-par for the day after a second straight birdie on No. 1. His score was 1-under-par until a bogey on hole four. Carey bounced back with four straight pars to cap his first-year season.

Sophomore Gabe Guthrie tied for 23rd-place with a 222. Guthrie carded his best round of the year with an even-par 70 on Sunday. Guthrie turned at 1-under-par, thanks to birdies on the par-5, 552-yard 14th hole and the par-5, 577-yard 16th hole. Guthrie played the final 15 holes of the year at 1-under-par and capped the season with eight straight pars.

Junior Krish Nayak delivered a strong bounce back with a closing 74 to finish at 234. Nayak played 14 holes at par or better and capped the junior year with a birdie on No. 9. His other birdie of the round came on No. 14.

Kenyon College finished at 5-over-par (845) to lead the eight-team field. Wittenberg University was next at 851, DePauw University took third with an 861, and Wabash College finished in fourth-place, just two strokes ahead of Wooster. Wittenberg's JF Aber was the medalist with a 5-under-par 205.
