Fighting Scots Humbled by Colorado 12-4

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team didn't have an answer for Colorado College's potent offense on Sunday afternoon, as the Lions hung 11-consecutive goals on the Scots during a 44 minute span, and topped the Scots 12-4 in a non-conference tilt at John P. Papp Stadium.

Five minutes into the action and the game appeared closely contested, as both teams traded shots and each recorded goals to tie the game 1-1. From that moment on, until there was just 3:49 remaining in the game, Wooster fell victim to a well-orchestrated 11-0 scoring run that saw Colorado steadily pull away.

Trailing 5-1 at the start of the second quarter, Wooster and Colorado engaged in a defensive struggle, combining to attempt just eight shots in the quarter. The last shot taken was the momentum changer in the game, though, as James Mauk beat the keeper with a goal as the clock expired to give the Lions a 6-1 lead heading into the break.

Colorado then built on its buzzer-beating second quarter goal, and posted three more scores in the third, and another three to start the fourth, creating an overwhelming 12-1 cushion. Joe Suliman, Casey McGann, and Pat Coyne all scored goals during a rejuvenated four-minute stretch to end the game, but it was too little too late.

Wooster had opportunities to score, as they finished the game just one shot attempt behind Colorado (26-25), but the Lions' goalkeeper Brendan Haas had a stellar 12-save outing. The Scots were also 13-for-16 on face-off attempts, all which were taken by Matt Pullara.

Dan MacVarish, Coyne, and McGann all tallied a goal and an assist, while Suliman also added a score in the setback.

The Scots will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they host North Coast Athletic Conference challenger OberlinOberlin College (2-6, 0-3 NCAC) at 4:30 p.m.
