Scots’ Defense Locks Down in Fourth to Upend Oberlin 12-7

WOOSTER, Ohio – Leading by just two goals to start the fourth quarter, goalkeeper Corey McGann and The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team locked down to hold OberlinOberlin College scoreless over the final 15 minutes, and added three goals itself, notching a 12-7 win in North Coast Athletic Conference action at John P. Papp Stadium.

The Scots (8-5, 2-1 NCAC) outshot the Yeomen (2-7, 0-4 NCAC) by an 18-7 margin in the opening stanza, but it was Oberlin who was lighting up the scoreboard in the early goings. Two quick goals by Erik Strand gave Oberlin a 2-0 lead, and then a Dylan Holmes goal just six minutes into the action put Wooster down three scores.

Matt Pullara halted the Scots' scoring drought with a goal near the end of the first quarter, which started a quick 5-0 Wooster scoring run. Alex Mies and Casey McGann got in on the run, as did Pullara, who recorded a hat trick just over 21 minutes into the game, and the Scots suddenly built a 5-3 advantage.

The Yeomen trailed by just one at halftime, and were behind 9-7 heading into the final period, but Wooster's defense denied the late comeback bid. McGann, who recorded his fourth double-digit save total this season, made three critical ones when it counted, and the Scots' offense added three more scores as cushion to seal the win.

Pullara (5 goals) and Mies (2 goals, 3 assists) paced Wooster's attack, while Dan MacVarish chipped in with a goal and three assists.

The Scots won't be back in action until a clash on the road with archrival WittenbergWittenberg University (8-2, 3-0 NCAC) on April 24 at 1:00.
