The College of Wooster scored the last two goals of the first half to go ahead 8-3, then completely broke the game open with a seven-goal third, four coming in the first three minutes of that quarter, and the Fighting Scots went on to a 19-8 victory at Aurora University Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind 2-0 early on, Wooster (3-0) rattled off six-straight goals before the run was briefly halted when Aurora (1-1) scored midway through the second quarter to make it 6-3. Matt Ranck completed his second-straight hat trick at the 3:35 mark and Dean Marchitelli even added one right before the break, the first of the sophomore long-stick midfielder's career.
The Scots pumped in four scores, two by Mike Perrino, during the opening 2:58 of the second half to make it 12-3. They added two more a few minutes later to push the margin to double figures and it never got any closer than nine the rest of the way.
Ranck, fresh off a career-high six goals on Wednesday, finished with four against the Spartans, as did Perrino, while Tom Herold totaled a team-leading seven points coming on three goals and four assists. Pat Henderson also produced a big offensive day with two goals and four helpers.
Defensively, Wooster sophomore goalie Matt Magoon was credited with a career-high 20 saves, and also of note, Max Rubin won 18-fo-25 face-offs while tallying 15 groundballs.
The Scots hope to keep rolling on Wednesday night when they visit Washington & Jefferson College (0-3).
