The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team scored nine goals in the first quarter, including six during a 3:14 spurt, and then continued to further pull away in a dominant 19-6 season-opening win against Thiel College on Tuesday evening at Greenville, Pa.

The Scots (1-0) found themselves trailing 3-1 about midway through the opening stanza, but Patrick Schlick and PJ Dallman each scored to tie the game at 3-3.

Then, with 4:36 remaining in the first quarter, Matt Ranck fired in a goal off an assist from Tom Herold that sparked a game-changing sequence, which saw the Scots seemingly score at will. Jake Bernard and Herold each registered goals moments later, and then Ranck scored three consecutive times in just 56 seconds, giving Wooster a commanding 9-3 lead.

The Scots tacked on the first three goals of the second quarter, pushing is cushion to 12-3, and then after Thiel (0-2) netted two of its own, Wooster went on to score seven of the game's final eight goals, including two that capped off a hat trick for sophomore Jack Brown.

Overall, the Scots outshot Thiel, a third-year program, by a commanding 54-18 margin, and also led in groundballs (21-10) and face-offs (22-7).

Herold led Wooster with eight points coming on two goals and six assists, while Ranck matched Thiel's entire scoring output with six goals. Also noteworthy, Dallman and Brown added three goals apiece, with the latter chipping in a helper as well.

Next, the Scots visit Albion College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
