The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team led by just three goals late in the third quarter of a closely-contested game, but then the Fighting Scots went on a 5-0 scoring over a 10:02 span to gain separation and cruise to a 12-5 victory over Albion College on Saturday afternoon at a cold and windy Albion, Mich.

Up 6-3 with just minutes remaining in the third stanza, Evan Albertson scored his second goal of the game that kick started the Scots' (2-0) offense. Albertson finished off a hat trick with another goal in the beginning of the fourth, and then Tom Herold, Harry Kemp, and Matt Ranck added three more to put Wooster in front by eight, 11-3, with about seven minutes to go in the contest.

Albion (2-2) managed to add a pair of goals in the final minutes, with Herold sandwiching another for Wooster in between, but it was too little too late, as the Scots sewed up a 12-5 triumph.

Wooster led 4-2 at halftime, despite trailing in shot attempts at that point by 13 (27-14), but it was the Scots that dominated that category in the second half, 31-16. Wooster also narrowly edged out Albion 11-9 in face-offs, with Max Rubin winning all of them for the black and old gold.

Along with Albertson's hat trick, Ranck scored three goals as well, while Herold chipped in two goals and an assist. Other scoring for the Scots were PJ Dallman, Mike Ewanechko, Pat Henderson, and Kemp.

Goalkeeper Matt Magoon played nearly the entire game (57:38), and recorded five saves while allowing just four goals. His counterpart Ian Monkman made 14 saves in the setback.

The Scots will have the chance to start the season 3-0 when they host Washington & Jefferson College (2-1) in their home opener Wednesday at 7 p.m.
