The College of Wooster's four-game road swing started off with a challenging match-up Tuesday afternoon, as the Fighting Scots were slowed by Roanoke College, ranked No. 20 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Week Three Poll, 18-6, in a non-conference men's lacrosse game at Salem, Va.
The Scots (2-2) weren't able to make any noise on the scoreboard until late in the second quarter, when Evan Albertson ended the scoring drought, and just 11 seconds later, Harry Kemp added another goal to pull Wooster within 8-2.
Jake Bernard and Kemp scored the first two goals of the third quarter, which made it a five-point game at 9-4, and Kemp and PJ Dallman tallied two more for the Scots in the fourth, but Roanoke (2-2) closed out the game on a six-goal run to end any chance of a Wooster comeback.
Kemp's hat trick was the first of his career.
Another highlight for the Scots was on face-offs, where specialist Max Rubin went 19-for-28 (.679) and also picked up a game-high nine groundballs.
Roanoke's Richard Lachlan paced his squad with six goals and three assists.
The Scots won't be in action again until next Wednesday when they visit St. Vincent College (2-1) for a 4 p.m. start.
