The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team started the second half with four unanswered goals, breaking open a game that had been tied 5-5 at halftime, and the Fighting Scots went on to a 12-9 non-league victory at Saint Vincent College Wednesday afternoon.

After Saint Vincent (2-3) scored the last four goals of the second quarters to even the scoreboard, Wooster (3-2) regrouped at the half as PJ Dallman scored just 35 seconds into the third. Jake Bernard connected on two of the next three goals, both unassisted, and the Scots were back comfortably ahead, 9-5 at the 3:02 mark of the quarter.

The Bearcats never got any closer than three the remainder of the game. In fact, Wooster expanded its lead to five (12-7) when Pat Henderson and Tom Herold tallied consecutive scores during the middle of the fourth quarter.

In the opening half, the Scots answered an initial goal by Saint Vincent with a 5-0 run, three of the goals coming during extra-man opportunities, for a 5-1 lead early in the second quarter.

Overall, Wooster featured a balanced scoring attack with eight different players netting goals, including two each by Bernard, Herold, Harry Kemp, and Matt Ranck. Also of note, Dallman recorded two points, adding an assist to go with his momentum-changing goal.

The difference in the game may have been Scot goalkeeper Matt Magoon, who made 16 saves, compared to just six by the Bearcats' goalie.

Wooster opens North Coast Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon at No. 11 ranked Denison University (5-1, 0-0 NCAC).
