The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team put together its most decisive win in more than a decade, cruising past DePauw University 24-0 during the teams' first North Coast Athletic Conference tilt, played Saturday in Greencastle, Ind.
The 24-point margin of victory was the largest for Wooster (6-3, 2-1 NCAC) since dominating Washington & Jefferson College 28-1 on April 20, 2002, while it was the Fighting Scots fifth shutout overall and first since the 2010 season opener against Milwaukee School of Engineering (22-0).
Wooster controlled the action right from the outset against DePauw (0-9, 0-3 NCAC), a first-year program still in search of its first victory. The Scots connected on six goals in the first quarter, four coming from the stick of Tom Herold.
The offensive output slowed a little during the second, as PJ Dallman and Matt Ranck each had one goal and one assist during a four-goal quarter.
Five more tallies came in the third period, highlighted by the first career goal for defender Sean Hohan during a man-down situation, and Wooster poured it on with a nine-goal fourth, featuring the first career scores for John Michael Bogusz, Seth Brown, Niall Cronin, Nick Halle, Taylor Norton, and Trevor Shoemaker.
Overall, Liam Coll and Ranck paced the Scots with matching lines of three goals and two assists, while Herold registered a team-high four goals. Harry Kemp also had a hat trick.
Combining for the shutout were goalies Matt Magoon and Aaron Levy, each tallying four saves, as the Tigers were held to 14 total shots.
Next up for Wooster is another Indiana opponent, as Trine University will visit on Tuesday night.
