The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team may have got caught looking ahead to the first-ever North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, as Oberlin College stunned the Fighting Scots 7-4 on Saturday night at Oberlin, Ohio.
It marked the end of a 19-game winning streak for Wooster in the all-time series with Oberlin, with the Yeomen last beating the Scots on April 15, 1998.
After trailing 3-2 at halftime, Wooster (9-5, 4-3 NCAC) appeared to be in good shape when it scored a pair of unanswered goals by Tom Herold and Matt Ranck during the third to take a 4-3 lead going into the fourth quarter.
The final period was all Oberlin (7-6, 3-4 NCAC) on this night, though. The Yeomen used a pair of Sean Higgins-to-Nick Lobley tallies midway through it to retake the lead, and tacked on others at the 5:45 and 2:06 marks to clinch the outcome.
Ranck accounted for both of the Scots' first-half goals as part of his seventh hat trick of the season, while Matt Magoon was credited with 11 saves in net to help offset Oberlin's 41-18 shot advantage.
The setback did not effect Wooster's seeding for the upcoming NCAC tourney, as the third-seeded Scots will be at No. 2 seed Ohio Wesleyan University (11-5) Tuesday night for the semifinals.
