Scots Score First 16 of 10-Goal Win

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team snapped a three-game skid in a big way, scoring 16 unanswered goals at the outset of its North Coast Athletic Conference game with DePauw University and eventually securing a 16-6 victory Saturday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

The offensive assault for Wooster (8-3, 1-2 NCAC) started early, as Evan Albertson, Nate Weltman, and Matt Parmelee all scored goals less than five minutes into the action.

The Fighting Scots added one more in the first quarter, then really got rolling with a seven-goal second. Pat Henderson recorded a hat trick in the second 15 minutes and Tom Herold tallied a pair of extra-man goals right before halftime to give them a commanding 11-0 lead.

Wooster continued to dominate play early in the second half, as it tacked on five more goals, all by different players, before reaching the midway point of the third quarter.

DePauw (3-7, 1-2 NCAC), a second-year varsity program, broke up the shutout at the 7:59 mark of the third, scored again 22 seconds later, and accounted for the final six goals overall.

Herold finished with a game-high four goals, three during extra-man opportunities, and Josh Herold assisted three of his older brother's four scores. Josh Herold had one other helper for a four-assist game.

In addition to Henderson's hat trick and the Herold brothers, Parmelee stood out with a two-goal, two-assist outing, as did Weltman (2 goals, 1 assist), Albertson (1 goal, 1 assist), and Jake Bernard (2 assists).

Defensively, Robert Friedhoff and Ben Grombala were the Scots' team leaders in groundballs with seven and four, respectively, while goalies Matt Magoon, Aaron Levy, and Hunter Ligo combined for nine saves.

On Wednesday afternoon, Hiram College (2-7, 0-3 NCAC) will visit Wooster.
