With less than two minutes remaining in regulation and the score tied at 10 apiece, newcomer Sam Kuhn fired in his first career goal to propel The College of Wooster's men's lacrosse team to an 11-10 victory over John Carroll University on Saturday afternoon at University Heights, Ohio,

The Fighting Scots (1-1) had second-year program John Carroll (1-1) right where they wanted them in the third quarter, as a four-goal scoring run, which included two tallies from Pat McKay, gave them an 8-4 cushion.

The Blue Streaks stunned the Scots late in the stanza, though, using a three-goal spurt over just 2:31 to pull within one (8-7) heading into the fourth quarter.

At that point, it was anyone's game, as the teams went back-and-forth trading goals, with Evan Albertson and Josh Herold lighting the scoreboard for the Scots. Herold's goal gave Wooster a short-lived 10-8 lead, but John Carroll delivered the game's next two goals, with the second one knotting the score at 10-10 with 2:44 to go.

Wooster's Erik Barroso won the ensuing faceoff, and shortly after, Kuhn beat the 'keeper with an unassisted score that put Wooster on top 11-10 at the 1:55 mark.

John Carroll produced one more shot attempt down the stretch, but Ben Grombala turned it away – one of seven saves on the day – and Wooster hung on for its first win of the season.

McKay and Albertson notched hat tricks in the triumph, while brothers Josh (2 goals, 1 assist) and Tom Herold (1 goal, 2 assists) each added three points on the offensive end.

Defensively, Sean Hohan scooped of four groundballs and John Trainor had three groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Declan O'Grady paced the Blue Streaks' attack with a strong five-point afternoon (3 goals, 2 assists).

Wooster will host Aurora College (1-1) in its home opener next Saturday at 1 p.m.
