The College of Wooster pushed its win streak to seven games on Sunday, as the Fighting Scots used offensive spurts in the first and third quarters to propel them to a 13-7 win against University of Mount Union in a non-conference game at Alliance, Ohio.
The Scots (7-1) kicked off their six-game road swing by getting after the Purple Raiders (2-4) early and often. Wooster scored the first four goals of the contest, including back-to-back tallies from Tom Herold just 2:53 apart, which gave it a 4-0 advantage late in the first quarter.
Mount Union scored four of the game's next seven goals, with two coming moments before the halftime break, which pulled it within three (7-4) at the midway point.
Wooster created more breathing room for itself with a 4-0 scoring run in the third quarter, consisting of two goals apiece from Nate Weltman and Matt Parmelee, that put the Scots out in front by seven (11-4), their largest lead of the game.
The Scots' defense was also a difference-maker in the second half, as goalkeeper Ben Grombala made six of his 10 saves, and the team dominated the ground ball battle, 16-6, after the halftime break.
Weltman paced Wooster's scorers with a career-high four goals, while Pat McKay chipped in three goals – his third hat trick in a row and fifth this season.
Max Rubin gave the Scots an edge in the faceoff circle, winning 14-of-20 attempts, including a game-high six groundballs.
Next, the Scots visit Adrian College (4-2) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
