Despite scoring only two goals in the first half, The College of Wooster's offense got going down the stretch and pulled within one twice during the fourth quarter, but Oberlin College held off the Fighting Scots for a 9-7 victory on Saturday afternoon in a North Coast Athletic Conference tilt at Oberlin, Ohio.

The Scots (7-3, 2-1 NCAC) and Yeomen (4-5, 1-2 NCAC) each fired off 10 shots in the first quarter, but neither team could light the scoreboard, as the game remained scoreless after the initial 15:00.

The action picked up in the second quarter, as Wooster's Matt Parmelee pumped in an unassisted goal just 38 seconds into the stanza to register the game's first points.

Oberlin knotted the score at 1-1 about three minutes later and then went on to score another four goals during the period, while limiting the Scots to just one more, to take a 5-2 lead into the break. It's worth noting, two of Oberlin's goals came in dramatic fashion during the final 18 seconds of the half.

Down by three to start the third (5-2), Wooster drew within two by the end of the third quarter, and then Nate Weltman led off the fourth quarter with his 15th tally of the season to make it a one-point game (7-6).

The Yeomen went back in front by two (8-6), but Tom Herold scored with 4:42 remaining in regulation to once again cut the Scot deficit to one at 8-7.

Wooster nearly tied it after that, as Ian Brim fired a shot wide and Parmelee's attempt at an equalizer was saved by the goalkeeper. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Scots got to completing their comeback bid, as Oberlin controlled possession and eventually added an insurance goal to put it out of reach.

Six different Scots netted a goal, with Pat McKay producing two of them. Also noteworthy, face-off specialist Max Rubin got involved on the offensive end more than usual, with a goal and an assist in the setback.

Oberlin's Nick Lobley had a hand in seven of his team's nine points, with five goals and two helpers.

The Scots will look to bounce back from their first two-game losing streak of the season when they travel to Kenyon College (5-4, 2-1 NCAC) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
