The College of Wooster held a two-goal lead over Kenyon College entering the fourth quarter, but the Lords stunned the Fighting Scots with nine unanswered goals down the stretch on their way to a 15-8 victory on Tuesday afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference action at Gambier, Ohio.

The Scots were in control for the better part of three quarters, as they went up 3-1 early, pushed their advantage to three (7-4) shortly after halftime, and were still in front by two (8-6) at the start of the final stanza.

That's when Kenyon (6-4, 3-1 NCAC) began its unprecedented scoring run. About two minutes into the fourth quarter, the Lords had tied the game at eight apiece, and then the goals kept coming. When the smoke cleared, Kenyon had scored nine times in just 8:41, to build a 15-8 cushion that more than sealed the outcome.

It was hard to predict the swing in momentum, as Wooster had outshot Kenyon 37-24 through three quarters and also had won 11-of-15 face-offs to that point.

Nate Weltman, Pat McKay, and Pat Henderson each scored during the game's initial 5:40 to put Wooster ahead 3-1. The first quarter continued to be a high-scoring one, which the Scots won 5-4, and then Tom Herold scored the only goal of the second quarter to give his team a 6-4 edge at the break.

Both teams put two points on the scoreboard during the third quarter, with Josh Herold netting both of Wooster's tallies, making it an 8-6 game with 15:00 minutes to go. It was at that juncture that Kenyon stole the momentum and never let go.

Wooster's (7-4, 2-2 NCAC) six-game road swing continues Saturday at DePauw University (4-5, 0-2 NCAC). The action kicks off at 1 p.m.
