Wooster's Win Streak Snapped by Capital

WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team continued to display an up-tempo offense, but Capital University goalkeeper Cole Palmby was up to the task with 20 saves helping lift the Crusaders to an 8-5 win in a physical contest at John P. Papp Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Wooster (3-1) struck first when Matt Parmelee slipped past his defender and snuck a shot by Palmby at the 9:43 mark of the first period. Forty ticks later, Parmelee was on the distribution end of the play, this time setting up Nate Weltman to give the Fighting Scots a two-goal cushion.

 Junior Matt Parmelee played a role in Wooster's first two goals of the contest.

Capital (4-1) answered right back with a pair of quick strikes - 51 seconds apart from each other - later in the period. The reigning Ohio Athletic Conference regular-season champions got on the board at the 8:28 mark via a tally from Brennan O'Cllaghan, prior to Brent Walton knotting the contest up on a man-up goal with 7:37 left in the frame.

Wooster tied the contest at three midway through the second period with Erik Barroso capping a fast-break opportunity while the Scots were a man-down.

Capital added a late goal with 16 seconds remaining in the first half, and padded its lead to two just 1:19 into the third period.

The Scots pulled back within one at the 10:54 mark of the third period when Parmelee finished his second goal of the game. The junior nearly scored again with 6:42 left in the stanza when he pumped one off of the back of the pipe.

Moments earlier, the Scots had a prime opportunity when a three-shot barrage was turned aside, highlighted by two saves from Palmby.

Capital upped its advantage to four prior to Ian Brim's man-up tally with 2:13 left in the contest.

Wooster controlled the team side of things in most major statistical categories including shots (46-39), groundballs (39-35) and face-offs (9-7).

Aaron Levy had a big night of his own for Wooster, finshing with a season-best 14 saves.

Wooster plays its next two games in Pennsylvania, starting with a 4 p.m. tilt at Haverford (3-2) on Saturday.
