Scots' Up-Tempo Pace Slowed in Loss at Haverford

The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team's up-tempo offense was held in check as red-hot Haverford College featured a combination of a balanced attack and a stifling defense in a 9-2 win over the Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon at Haverford, Pa.

Wooster (3-2) was competitive in terms of offensive chances early with Haverford (4-2) as the Scots' actually outshot the hosts 6-3 over the game's first 10 minutes. However, the Fords found their rhythm late in the opening stanza, highlighted by Andrew Dalke's go-ahead goal with 3:12 left in the frame.

For the game Wooster was outshot 35-26.

Haverford quickly found the back of the net with Tav Hafner's game-opening tally just 2:08 into the contest. Wooster knotted up the contest at one with a man-up strike when Pat McKay piped one in off the feed from Josh Herold with 6:28 left in the opening period.

The Fords really gained momentum around five minutes into the second period with back-to-back goals in a span of seven seconds to open up a 4-1 lead.

Wooster pulled within two when Matt Parmelee fired in his team-leading 10th goal of the season with 1:54 left in the half.

Haverford scored five unanswered goals in the second half. On the other end of the field, the Fords really held the Scots in check as Wooster was only able to trigger off 12 shots in the second half, including only one over the final 15 minutes of the game.

Goalkeeper Aaron Levy was solid again in goal, coming up with 14 saves for the second straight game. Levy also scooped up a team-high seven groundballs.

Other statistical leaders for the Scots were Aidan Crowe and Herold with four groundballs each, and Jack Gilio and Herold with two caused turnovers.

Hafner and Isaac Krier scored two goals each for Haverford, while Eric Caliendo tallied nine groundballs on the stat sheet.

Next, Wooster remains in Pennsylvania for a 4 p.m. tilt against Swarthmore College (3-1) on Tuesday.
