WOOSTER, Ohio – A relentless 9-1 surge by The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team spanning the second and third periods reared all the momentum in the Fighting Scots' favor during a 15-12 win over Oberlin College at John P. Papp Stadium on Friday evening.

Wooster (8-3, 3-0 North Coast Athletic Conference) found itself down 8-5 with 8:52 left in the first half when Oberlin's (2-7, 0-3 NCAC) Alex Wagman struck for his third of five goals. It was all Wooster from there for the remainder of the period.

First, Josh Herold distributed a league-leading 27th assist of the year, finding Alexander Bloom with 8:38 remaining in the period to trim the Yeomen's lead down to two.

Then, Nate Weltman beat his defender for his first of his team-high four goals on the night with 5:00 left.

With the clock under four minutes, CJ Polak found Herold, who blazed in his co-team leading 19th tally of the year to knot the game at eight.

Wooster claimed the lead for good with Sam Kuhn and Pat McKay adding early second-half strikes, and later in the third fame, Weltman, Kuhn, Jack Gilio, and Weltman again scored four unanswered goals, which at the time pushed Scots' lead to 14-9.

Wooster really clicked early with perhaps an eight-second stretch in the first period foreshadowing the big second- and third-period surge from the Scots. Herold found Bloom for a goal at the 9:37 mark, then Erik Barroso won the ensuing faceoff and was able to jet down the field to find Herold, who pierced one in with 9:29 remaining in the frame.

The Yeomen recovered from the quick pair of scores to rattle off five-straight goals of their own to open the 8-5 advantage.

Herold and Weltman finished with five points each on the night, while Polak quietly piled up four assists.

Defensively, Aaron Levy shined with 14 saves, including six big ones in the second period.

Wooster's faceoff unit had a high degree of success with Barroso and Dan Gorzynski scooping up six groundballs apiece on the night.

The Scots remain at home with a 7 p.m. contest against Kenyon College (6-2, 1-1 NCAC) on Tuesday.
