Scots Place Three on All-NCAC Team

Aaron Levy
 Matt Parmelee

A trio of members of The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team garnered 2016 All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors, with senior goalkeeper Aaron Levy and junior midfielder Matt Parmelee voted second-team and sophomore long-stick midfielder Jack Gilio honorable mention, as announced by the NCAC on Wednesday.

Levy excelled in his first season as the starting 'keeper for the Fighting Scots, who qualified for last week's four-team conference tournament. Levy, who missed the 2015 slate due to injury, posted a 10-7 mark, recorded a conference-best 201 saves, and had a 10.79 goals-against average. In fact, Levy's 201 saves marked the first time a Wooster goalkeeper turn aside at least 200 shots since the 2001 season. The Warwick, R.I. native recorded at least 20 saves twice on the year, including in Wooster's win over Wittenberg University that clinched a spot in the NCAC Tournament.

Parmelee really upped his game this season for the Scots, who entered the season having lost two of their top three point scorers from 2015. The South Glastonbury, Conn. native finished second on the team with a career-high 40 points to give Wooster two 40-point contributors for the second consecutive season. Parmelee, who scored 24 goals and distributed 16 assists, really caught fire late in the season with hat tricks against nationally-ranked Denison University and Wittenberg. Parmelee also scooped up 34 groundballs, four of which came against the Tigers.

Gilio, already sixth in the program annals for career groundballs while only having two seasons under his belt, earned his second-straight all-conference certificate. Instrumental in helping the Scots' face-off unit and defense, Gilio ranks second (tops amongst non face-off specialists) in the NCAC with 89 groundballs, and is also second with 36 caused turnovers. In fact, Gilio's groundball haul this year was the second-highest in program history behind Matt Pullara's 109. The New Canaan, Conn. product really came on strong at the end of the season with 17 groundballs against nationally-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University and Denison in the NCAC Tournament semifinals.

As a team, the Scots went 10-7 overall for their fourth consecutive winning season.  Wooster had a 5-3 mark in conference play, the NCAC wins in program history.
