WOOSTER, Ohio – First-year Connor Mangan moved into The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team's top-10 list for single-season groundballs, and classmate Shaun Peirce scored five goals, but a five-goal fourth period by visiting DePauw University proved too tall a task to overcome as the Tigers upended the Fighting Scots 13-8 on Saturday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (8-4, 4-1 North Coast Athletic Conference), which was in search of its second straight 5-0 start in league play, and its co-single-season team-best fifth conference win, overcame a slow start and had the contest knotted up at five at halftime thanks to a 5-3 advantage in the second period.

Peirce carried the workload in the scoring column with four of the five second-period goals, including the game-tying tally with :10.4 to go before halftime. Senior Sam Kuhn, who dished out four assists in the tilt, set up the Scots' rookie on his final two goals of the half.

DePauw's Ben Davis scored the go-ahead goal just a tick of the clock before the second half was five minutes old, and he padded the Tigers' lead to two with 6:36 to go in the third stanza.

Peirce was on the setting-up end of the Scots' goal that pulled Wooster within two after junior Joe Altieri found the back of the net for the eighth time this season with 1:44 to go in the third stanza that made it 8-6, but DePauw's Steen Jorgensen gave the Tigers' a three-goal cushion at the 12:15 mark of the fourth period.

Wooster again pulled within two on a goal by senior Desmond Hughes prior to the Tigers putting the game out of reach.

Charlie Robson was the hero on the afternoon for DePauw. The Tigers' 'keeper logged 20 saves, 13 of which came in the second half.

Mangan, who scooped up four groundballs, now has 64 on the season, the seventh-most in the program's single-season history since that became an officially tracked statistic by the NCAA in 1999.

Wooster's relentless pursuit led to 23 DePauw turnovers, and 11 different Scots were credited with a caused turnover in the game. Other stats to note include five groundballs by Altieri and three groundballs each by seniors Jack Gilio and Noah Parker.

DePauw's Joe Garvey won 15-of-25 faceoffs and scooped up a game-high 11 groundballs.

Next, Wooster travels to eighth-ranked Denison University (10-2, 4-0 NCAC) for a 7:30 p.m. clash on Wednesday, April 11.
