Fourth-Quarter Surge Enables Kenyon to Pull Away From Wooster, 15-7

A strong closing stretch by visiting Kenyon College was the difference on Saturday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium, where the visiting Lords took game two of a conference set from the Fighting Scots, 15-7.

Wooster (4-3, 4-2 North Coast Athletic Conference East Division) led after one quarter of play, 4-3. First-year Vinny DiLeo, a frequent assister for the Scots this year, was in the scoring column this time. The rookie's highlight-reel score came off an assist by senior Ted Wells, and resulted in DiLeo diving as he caught the feed, then fired the shot past Kenyon (3-0, 2-0 NCAC East Division) 'keeper David Metzger. After that, sophomore Ryan You found Ben Kennedy up top, and the Scots' junior fired a laser into the net, giving Wooster the 4-3 lead with 42 ticks left in the first.

Kenyon tightened up considerably on the defensive end after Kennedy's score, with the Lords allowing just one Wooster shot in the second stanza. Offensively, Kenyon scored three times in the period. Two of those came from Mike Asucion's stick, as Kenyon took a 6-4 lead into halftime.

In the fourth period, Kenyon appeared to be on the verge of coming unglued with four penalties in a 38-second span. That resulted in Wooster playing three-up lacrosse for a stretch. First-year Ben Byars cashed in via a player-up goal at the 12:09 mark, which pulled Wooster within 9-7. Again, Kenyon buttoned up the loose ends, with the Lords Ethan Dewbrey scoring the first of six unanswered goals by the Lords down the stretch, while Metzger stepped up in net, accumulating six of his game-high 12 saves in the final 15 minutes.

Wooster sophomore Adam Meyer's big moments came in the first half, as that's when the Scots' 'keeper made nine of his 11 saves, five of which came in the first period.

Byars' two goals led Wooster, first-year Jimmy Fisher's five groundballs were the team-high, and first-year Casey Steffen was responsible for three of the Scots' seven caused turnovers.

Boesel continued his hot week with four goals and three assists, Reed Russel won 16-of-25 faceoffs to pair with seven groundballs, and Ollie Martin added seven groundballs on the day for the Lords.

Next, Wooster hosts Ohio Wesleyan University (6-1) on Tuesday, April 20 at 7 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
