Wooster Victorious at Allegheny, 15-11

Finals start at The College of Wooster on Friday, and the Fighting Scots' men's lacrosse student-athletes hopefully set the tone for their examinations by "acing" Thursday evening's contest at Allegheny College, where the Black and Gold emerged victorious, 15-11.

Wooster, which evened its record at 5-5, earned high marks in three areas in particular – faceoffs, clears, and shot attempts. In the faceoff department, Jimmy Fisher's mastery of the "subject" – Allegheny (2-5) in this case – continued, as the first-year won 24-of-30 attempts, and he's now 64-of-83 on faceoffs against Allegheny this year. In fact, Fisher's 158-of-253 overall, and should his season winning percentage – currently at 62.5 percent – remain above 62 percent at the end of the year, he'll go down as the winningest single-season faceoff specialist in program history. Fisher scooped up 13 groundballs in Thursday's contest, running his season total to 95, the second-most in program history, and a total that's currently in the top-25 nationally within NCAA Div. III this spring.

On clears, Wooster was nearly perfect, converting 16-of-18 on the night, while the Scots almost doubled up the Gators in total shots with 50 to the host's 28.

Wooster closed out Thursday's game with a 6-2 run. Junior Ben Kennedy started that stretch with a go-ahead tally with 1:22 remaining in the third period, and he was at it again at the fourth-period's onset, with goal No. 13 on the year coming at the 14:29 mark. Wooster wasted no time taking a three-goal lead, with Fisher winning the ensuing faceoff, and 22 ticks later, first-year Vinny DiLeo's 13th goal of the year was on its way into the net. DiLeo, who had a co-game-high seven points, did the heavy lifting during the closing stretch with three fourth-period scores, while senior Ted Wells tucked in an insurance goal with 2:41 remaining to put Wooster up by four.

Kennedy, senior Connor Mangan, and Wells all finished with three goals and an assist. Mangan and first-year Henry McMahon scooped up four groundballs apiece, while DiLeo, sophomore Tucker Joseph, and first-year Oliver Snow combined for six of Wooster's eight caused turnovers. Sophomore Adam Meyer made seven saves.

Patrick Hogan dished out five assists and added two goals to lead Allegheny. Eric Mirkovich made 13 saves.

Wooster and Allegheny are set to meet again on Saturday at 4 p.m. at John P. Papp Stadium. Prior to the game, Wooster will recognize its six seniors.
